Your Backyard Renovation List Is Missing Something

Every backyard renovation has a list. New deck. Better lighting. Maybe that outdoor kitchen you've been pinning for years.

Here's what usually gets left off: shelter. Without it, your brand-new patio is only as good as the weather forecast. A Hansø pergola fixes that.

Built from T6 aerospace-grade aluminum and engineered for up to 167 mph winds and up to 65 PSF snow load, it keeps your patio covered, comfortable, and in use from spring through winter. Motorized louvers let you decide how much sky you want, anytime.

Early Bird Offers EXTENDED: save up to 40% on pergolas, plus a $1,000 installation voucher, a Free Hansø ProCheck Care™ 10-Year Plan worth $950, FREE heater and more.

The list is long. Make sure the most important thing is on it.

The Clark School of the 1830s

In the early 1830s a one-room school sat on a corner of the Clark Farm near what is now West Pike and Kistler Road, according to the Murrysville Historical Preservation Society. Two more schoolhouses later rose nearby, and an early 1900s red brick school was converted to a private home in the 1950s.

Today a reconstructed one-room schoolhouse stands at the Sampson/Clark Homestead on West Pike, where the society opens the grounds for fall festivals and other events.

Hidden Murrysville: Fairview Park

East of Delmont on Old William Penn Highway, Fairview Park was opened in 1945 by the Monongahela Valley Sunday School Association so African American families would have a recreation ground of their own during segregation, the state marker and Fairview Park Association say. It was Pennsylvania's first and only Black-owned amusement park and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 2011.

Visit the marker just inside the gate from the parking lot. The association's annual picnic, open to all, is held the third Saturday of August.
