MINI-GUIDE #005
Election Day Cheat Sheet
Tuesday is Election Day. Here is a quick, nonpartisan cheat sheet on voting in Murrysville, Export and Delmont, with every detail checked Nov 1 on official state, county and district pages.
01 Polls Are Open 7 AM to 8 PM Tuesday, Nov 3
In line by 8 PM? You can still vote. Midday is often quicker.
02 Find Your Polling Place
The state lookup shows exactly where you vote.
03 Check Your Registration in One Minute
See if you are registered, and at which address.
04 ID Only If It Is Your First Time at Your Polling Place
First time at a polling place? Bring an approved ID. It does not have to be a photo ID.
05 Mail Ballots Must Arrive by 8 PM Tuesday
A postmark is not enough. Drop it at the Westmoreland Elections Office, 2 N. Main St., Greensburg. Return only your own ballot unless a disability designation applies.
06 No Mail Ballot Drop-Off at Your Polling Place
Bring the ballot and outer envelope to surrender it and vote a regular ballot. Without both, vote provisionally.
07 Provisional Ballots Are Your Backup
Not in the poll book? You can vote a provisional ballot, which the county reviews within 7 days.
08 Kids Have School, and Help Is a Call Away
FR's 2026-27 calendar lists no day off for Nov 3, so plan around a regular school day. Questions? Call Westmoreland Elections at (724) 830-3150 or the state hotline, 1-877-VOTESPA (1-877-868-3772).

Monday, November 2 in Murrysville
Mostly cloudy and mild, high near 69, low around 48. Election Day and Wednesday look sunny and warm in the mid 70s. Rain arrives Wednesday night and lingers into Friday, then Saturday cools to 59.

FR Grad Spencer Lee Wins a World Title on a Torn ACL
Franklin Regional graduate Spencer Lee, 28, won gold at 57 kilograms in freestyle at the world championships while wrestling on a torn ACL, TribLive reports. He piled up four technical falls and a pin, then won the final 10-0 in 25 seconds. Team USA also won the team title. Lee went 144-1 at Franklin Regional.

FR Football Coach Sees Progress Beyond the Record
First-year Franklin Regional coach Brian Johnson says his team made real progress this fall, even if the record does not show it, TribLive reports. The Panthers earned one Class 5A Big East win, over Fox Chapel, and lost close games to Connellsville, 24-21, and Latrobe, 29-27. The season ended Oct. 30 with a 17-10 loss at Hampton.
Injuries gave underclassmen valuable snaps. Both quarterbacks and many linemen return, the run game was a strength, and the passing game needs work. The middle school team won four games.

Rich Lang Takes Over FR Softball
Franklin Regional's new softball coach is Rich Lang, 49, a Highlands graduate with 13 years in travel and rec softball and 10 as an umpire, TribLive reports. He replaces a coach who left after one season. Lang says he wants a calm, approachable program built on fundamentals and a winning culture.

FR's Holiday Gift Card Drive Is Back
The Franklin Regional counseling team and Murrysville Alliance Church are running their annual holiday gift card collection for district families who could use a hand this season, according to Franklin Regional Senior High School. Requests are confidential: families contact their student's counselor or return the form by Friday, Nov. 13, and the counselor follows up with pickup details. Donors sign up by Nov. 13 and drop gift cards with their student's counselor by Friday, Dec. 4.

How Coal Built Export
Westmoreland Coal Co. opened the Export Mine in 1892 on former Ament family farmland east of Murrysville. By 1904 its two drift mines were the largest single mining operation in Westmoreland County, turning out about 734,000 tons that year.
A long strike began in 1910 and ended after Export became a borough in 1911. The town grew to about 2,500 people in the 1920s, and the mines closed in 1952. Look for the half moon concrete fan house, which still stands today.
Hidden Spot: The MORE Energy Liberty Bell
At the Roberts Trailhead on the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, 4301 William Penn Hwy., a replica Liberty Bell sits on a coal car built by Murrysville Public Works. Artist Stacey Pydynkowski painted it with the Haymaker gas well, coal, rail, wind and solar, with sponsorship from FirstEnergy.
